Vetting

Show & Tell Time!  Thomas and I worked together to remove several UFO's  (Unidentified Foreign Objects) from a 2 and a half year old Labrador Retriever on Tuesday.  There were multiple small pieces of plastic along with a large amount of tangled fibrous material/string in the stomach, along with string and a larger piece of plastic that was stuck in the small intestines.  This piece was nearly breaking through the intestine at the time of surgery.  There was also a large amount of gut that was bunched together because of string that was stuck.  This part of gut, along with the part that had the plastic poking through, had to be completely removed.  Then we sutured the remaining healthy gut back together.

Now for the fun part of the post...

Here's a picture from my very first abdominal exploratory/foreign body removal from a 2 year old Labrador (about a month ago).  See a trend yet?

And just for fun, here is just one reason why you should always spay your female dogs (or cats)!  Here's an x-ray image from a Rottweiler that had a uterus full of pus.  Normally, you shouldn't even be able to see the uterus on an x-ray image.  This surgery was the first surgery Thomas and I worked together on.

Anyways, we will try to post again on Sunday.  Our friends Janet and David are coming to visit us on Saturday.  We are really looking forward to it--we certainly don't get as many visitors up here *hint HINT!* :)

Love you guys, and keep in touch!
